The Gospel Music Of Johnny Cash

For fifty years, Johnny Cash towered above the American musical landscape. Throughout his remarkable life, Johnny Cash remained a seeker of truth and faith, as this collection of his gospel recordings attests.

Elvis Ultimate Gospel

25 Songs

Elvis Ultimate Gospel

When Elvis was growing up, the Presley family attended The First Assembly Of God Church in Tupelo and subsequently in Memphis. Elvis' music was greatly influenced by attending these churches, but religious music came to Elvis in many different shapes and forms. Religious songs were often part of the repertoire for country stars on the Grand Ol' Opry - a syndicated Nashville radio broadcast that the Presley's almost always tuned into on Saturdays. As a teen, Elvis and his friends would sneak into churches in the black neighborhoods to catch the lively music of a different musical heritage. The welcoming congregations and uplifting sounds opened up Elvis' understanding of the multiple facets of religious music. With 250 million of Elvis' gospel recordings sold in the U.S. alone, there is no doubt about the importance of Elvis Presley's contribution to the popularization of religious music.

How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites Live From The Grand Ole Opry

How Great Thou Art: Gospel Favorites Live From The Grand Ole Opry

One of the strongest roots of country music has always been gospel, so this collection of country stars delivering gospel tunes live at the Opry seems like a perfectly natural occurrence. From the Charlie Daniels Band's frenetic, Southern-rock-tinged take on "I'll Fly Away" to deep-voiced Nashville superstar Trace Adkins's agreeably loping, low-key version of "Wayfaring Stranger," How Great Thou Art lends just the right amount of twang and down-home flavor to a brace of enduring spiritual tunes.
